Rachel

The white scrunchie was designed after Rachel. Supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, Rachel’s goal in the healthcare field is to create more inclusion. Having grown up with a younger brother who has Down Syndrome, Rachel has experienced first-hand the struggle her parents went through to get her brother's support and how he was often treated differently.

“It was a big reality check, not everyone has the same struggles, we aren’t created equal…but we all deserve a good life, to have the same opportunities even if it takes a bit longer or is harder to achieve and to be treated with kindness!” – Rachel

Rachel believes that Inclusion, quality of life and respect should be given to any human being. The individuals she supports were not always given that. Institutions had a bad reputation for abuse of these individuals.

“Now I go to work every day and treat them like they were my brother! A lot of them become family. It isn’t a glorious high-paying career, but it’s the most fulfilling and rewarding job I can imagine.” – Rachel
